Resilience

ACEs are the accumulation of a child’s exposure to stressful events that overwhelm the child’s ability to cope and happen in the absence of adult buffering, protection or support. ACEs are common but do not need to represent a lifelong risk factor.

By fostering resilience, we can reduce risk and support recovery when the right supports are in place. Resilience is the ability to bounce back. With appropriate support and help, people can heal and thrive despite past experiences.

Resilience can be built through:
  • Healthy and supportive relationships
  • Taking care of ourselves
  • Asking for help when we need it

The capabilities that underlie resilience can be strengthened at any age.
